Rounding out my series of the 2017 Harrisburg Beer Week is the Little Big Beer Festival (LBBF). All beers are over 8% abv. Yeah some high test beers at this event.

Two beer offerings were given at this event:

  • Super Dilled: An Imperial Dill Pale dry hopped w/Soraci Ace and Corriander
  • Peep Show: Imperial Golden Ale aged on vanilla beans and lactose

The Peep Show was a collaboration with Fermented Artistry’s head brewer, Brad Moyer.

Brad was the one who thought of the idea to make a Marshmallow Peeps® beer. Yes that is correct, a Marshmallow Peeps® candy beer, because the event would very close to the Easter holiday. Also it was quite a gimmick that I could promote through social media.

I set up at the event, loaded the DogFish Head Randall with yellow Peeps®, and started pouring. I was amazed so many people were taking pictures of their glass of the Peep Show garnished with a blue Peep® swimming in the beer glass. One local brewing expert wanted to try it because of the buzz, and once he had a taste he said, ‘I really thought this beer was only a gimmick at first before I tried it. Now after I have, it’s really a good beer.’

The Super Dilled went over very well too. There is something about those dill beers that just stand out in a crowd.

Also at the event taping a live show was the PA beer podcaster, Beer Busters Podcast, hosted by Steph, Dan and Wayne. Brad, who knows them, got me a spot on the show! We talked about the beer I made for the event as well as my vision for the brewery. I must have been talking with them for roughly 10 minutes but it seemed like only minutes.

I had ten Peep Show posters made—we raffled posters #6-10 to raise money for Harrisburg River Rescue. Poster #5 went to the organizers of Harrisburg Beer Week, while poster #4 went to the Beer Busters Podcast to show my appreciation for having me on their show. Posters #1 went to me, poster #2 went to Brad, and poster #3 went to the designer of the poster, Jim Powell.

Over all, the show was another great time with old friends and new. The Peep Show didn’t place but there were quite a few tickets in our voting glass that I’m sure it would of placed 4th or 5th.

Some highlights from HBG Beer Week:

  • Total amount of beer brewed: 51 gallons
  • Average temperature while brewing: 42.28 degrees F
  • Business cards given out: Over 100
  • Memories made: too many to remember

I cannot wait until spring 2018, when hopefully we will be an officially licensed brewery!!!
